Once you have purchased your shampoo, here’s how to wash human hair extensions and wigs.

You should only wash them once every 1 to 2 weeks. Make sure you have a brush specifically designed to brush extensions or wigs. Gently brush the hair before washing. Fill a bowl or your sink with cold water and mix in about a tablespoon of your shampoo. Turn the wig inside out and submerge it in the water or dip in your extensions. Swirl it around and let soak for about five minutes. Run the hair under cold water until it runs clear and the shampoo has been rinsed out. Just like your regular hair, you need conditioner too! Apply about a tablespoon of conditioner and let it sit for about two minutes. Rinse and then gently squeeze out the excess water. Let dry completely before styling.

If you have a synthetic hair wig or extensions, you’ll also would want to wash about once a week and be sure to use products made specifically for synthetic hair! Basically, you follow the same advice as above. Make sure you let your wig or extensions dry completely before styling. This is especially important for synthetic hair.

If you need to wash extensions that stay in your hair, here’s how. Brush your hair first and remove all tangles. Get in the shower and get your hair wet with cold water. Apply shampoo and wash in a downward motion, pressing the shampoo into the artificial hair. Rinse and repeat with conditioner. When your hair is damp, a hydrating scalp spray can help your hair stay moisturized and keep your extensions from becoming too itchy.
