There are many factors involved with growing healthy hair, but sometimes even the habits that seem harmless can wreak havoc on your hair growth journey.

Smoking

It is no secret how harmful smoking a cigarette can be physically to your body and lungs. But did you know that smoking can lead to weaker blood circulation which is vital for growing healthy hair? Smoking can negatively impact your hair’s regrowth cycle and causes noticeable differences in your hair growth and texture. This can also affect the hair when smoking in enclosed spaces. The toxins and chemicals in the smoke can damage your hair follicles preventing new hair growth.

Going to Bed with Wet Hair

Sometimes there is nothing like taking a hot shower and climbing into clean sheets. However, when your hair is wet it is at its weakest point. So going to bed with wet hair is damaging, especially if you are someone who constantly turns over in their sleep. To avoid damage, try to let your hair air dry completely before you go to sleep.

Overusing Thermal Styling Tools

Overuse of thermal styling tools can cause your hair to get dry and damaged due to the extreme heat applied to wet or damp hair. When possible, it’s best to allow your hair to air dry. When you do use thermal styling tools, make sure to apply a heat protectant and treatment spray to protect your hair.

Pulling your Hair Back

For some, running their fingers through their hair is an unconscious behavior. A way people deal with this is by pulling their hair into a ponytail or updo. This helps the scalp not come in contact with any oils that can damage the cuticle or clog pores. The downside is that constant tugging and pulling the hair away from your face can cause breakage at your scalp. Make sure to switch up your hairstyle and try to find ways to keep your hands busy to avoid excessive hair touching.

People form habits for many reasons, sometimes out of convenience and sometimes they just become routine. Though some of these habits may not seem like they are affecting you much and they offer you some relief, behind the scenes they can be hurting parts of you that you haven’t noticed yet, like your hair.

Hi Jeanette, thank you for reaching out. Remember that hair loss is ongoing, so using products that help repair or help with regrowth has to be constant. If you stopped using our Regrowth Treatment with 2% Minoxidil, hair follicles revert back to their original state of inactivity and your newly grown hair will eventually fall out as part of your natural shedding process. Continued use of our Regrowth Treatment with 2% Minoxidil is needed to sustain new growth. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Your Product Specialists to support you with your hair regrowth journey. We are available Monday through Friday from 9am-9pm EST at (888)237-4131.
