Right now, your favorite salons may still be closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. If you’re like a lot of other women, you cannot go and get a trim from a salon or barbershop. However, if you are noticing a lot of split ends and your hair has become very dry and dull, it may be time for a trim! If you are ready to cut your own hair, read this first. While we do not suggest a full-on haircut unless you have some experience, a trim can be pretty simple. It can help your hair stay healthy and look better.

You’ll need some sharp cutting shears. Don’t try to cut your hair with dull scissors or those not made to cut hair. According to WikiHow with tips from a professional, there are several different ways you can trim your hair at home.

First, you can try the twisting method. Take about an inch section of your dry hair and brush it. Then twist it slightly until you see your split ends pop out. Trim those split ends slightly and remember to start at the top of the strand and go down. Repeat until your hair is complete. This may take a while, but it is pretty simple to see the split ends to remove them.

Another method involves trimming the ends. Damp, straight hair is preferred for this method. Be sure to brush your hair first and then use a comb to separate your hair into sections. If you have thicker hair, you will need more sections than if you have thin hair. Pull the section straight by holding it between your index and middle finger. Cut a very small piece off the end of the section, about .4 to .8 inches. Be sure to make the cut perpendicular to the strand so it looks even. Repeat all over your head. You may want to have someone help with the back of your head and be sure to section your hair so you know which pieces have been cut.

Finally, treat your hair to a deep conditioning mask or conditioner to prevent split ends from coming back quickly! Try our NEW Deep Hydration Volumizing Conditioner. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to your hairstylist for advice and offer them a donation during these hard times.
