Hair oil can be a very effective way to grow your hair, keep it hydrated & healthy, and improve the look of your hair. However, if you use it the wrong way, it can make your hair look greasy and it may not even give you all the benefits it could if you applied it correctly.
Hair oil may help strengthen your hair, hydrate it, reduce frizz, nourish hair & scalp, and even treat specific scalp and hair issues. First, you will need to either make or purchase the correct hair oil for your specific hair type and hair concerns. For example, if your hair is dry and brittle, look for a moisturizing hair oil. It generally comes in an oil form but you can also try a mist like our Marula Oil Hair Mist.
If you are using an oil that requires it to be rinsed out, use these steps. When you are ready to apply the oil, massage it into your dry scalp for several minutes, and work your way throughout the scalp for about 10-15 minutes. A scalp massage is a great way to relax and it may also help your hair grow faster. Then work it through the ends of your hair. Put your hair in a bun and wrap a warm cloth around your head and leave on for a few hours or even overnight. This will help ensure the oils are soaked in.
When you’re ready to remove the oils, simply rinse and shampoo and condition as normal. You can also try a hair oil that goes on after the shower and stays in, much like a leave-in conditioner. You only need to use an oil about once a week or less if your hair is oily. Remember, less is more or you could end up with greasy hair that needs to be washed again!
