Dandruff and itchy scalp are common at any time of the year, especially during the dry winter months. While many people will experience dandruff at some point in their lives, it can be very annoying and uncomfortable. Dandruff is a scalp condition that creates white or yellow flakes. You might see the flakes on your clothing and your head might become very itchy and dry. In addition, this can be very embarrassing for some people if others notice the flakes.
For those with oily scalp and hair, dandruff might be worse. It can also affect those with very dry scalp or those who get a dry scalp in the winter. Indoor heating and dry climates generally make dry scalp, dandruff and itchy scalp worse. Others might just be genetically predisposed to having dandruff and itch. Dandruff can also be caused by a poor diet, stress, age, and a buildup of hair products on your scalp.
If you would prefer a more natural, DIY version, you can try an apple cider vinegar rinse. Apple cider vinegar is very good at getting rid of dandruff and reducing the itch associated with it. It can also help your hair look shinier and healthier. Tea tree oil and peppermint oil are also great for reducing the itch and getting rid of the flakes. If your dandruff is especially bad, wash your hair every day and brush your hair often. Brushing your hair a lot will evenly distribute your hair’s natural oils.
If your dandruff and itchy scalp only flare up during certain times of the year, keep those products on hand during those times. When you are washing your hair, try to use cool or warm water, never hot. Hot water can further strip your hair’s natural oils, making your hair dry and later, itchy.
