To maintain healthy locks, especially if your hair is prone to becoming dry and/or damaged, you might want to consider using a deep conditioner. If you are unsure how to actually deep condition your hair, we’ve laid out the whole process in easy to follow steps for you. Here’s how to deep condition your hair and how often you should do it:

  • You should deep condition your hair about once a week. If it is very damaged or dry, you may want to deep condition your hair twice a week until it becomes healthy again. Deep conditioning may not only help your hair’s health but help you to avoid split ends and save you money by not having to visit the hair salon as frequently.
  • Choose the right conditioner. Look at the directions when you are shopping. If it says to only leave in for about 2-5 minutes and then rinse, it is not technically a deep conditioner. Look for a deep conditioner with directions that say to leave it on for at least 10 minutes and then rinse. If you color your hair, you may also want to look for a color-protecting deep conditioner.
  • Start with a clean base. Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Then you’ll want to apply your deep conditioner evenly, beginning from the hairline and ending with the ends. Comb the conditioner with a wide-toothed comb to ensure an even application. Comb slowly and gently. Then relax. You can massage your scalp if you’d like, but you can also simply leave it on for  10-15 minutes. You may also be able to leave it on longer if you’d like even softer and smoother hair, but make sure to read the directions first to avoid any damage to your scalp. To make the conditioner penetrate even deeper, you can also cover your hair with a plastic bag or cap. If your hair is extremely dry or damaged, you should look for an overnight deep conditioner.
  • When you are ready to rinse out, rinse with cool water until the water runs clear with no trace of conditioner and pat dry with a towel. Never rub or tug your hair when it is wet because this has been known to cause damage.

Does Keramique offer a deep conditioner? I need to condition often, since my hair is dry. My hairdresser in Germany sold me a tub of “Medavita”,which us excellent. I am looking for a comparably high quality product in the US.
