Everyone’s hair is different, and each head requires different care. Still, there are some tried and tested tips that work on most hair types.
Wash Regularly
Do not make the common mistake of washing your hair every day. Using shampoo just a few times weekly is healthier for your hair than every time you shower. Washing your hair too often strips away essential oils that the scalp needs and dries it out. For curlier hair types, you will probably find that your hair can go slightly longer without washing.
Use a Conditioner or Oil
On days that you do wash your hair, be sure to use conditioner from the middle to ends of your hair. This helps to maintain hydration. Conditioners provide moisturization and oils add extra minerals. Using conditioner and oils are essential to maintaining a healthy head of hair.
Don’t Be So Harsh
Most of us enjoy a steaming hot shower, filling the entire room with steam! Try to avoid using piping hot water on your hair, as it can dry it out and cause damage. Instead, use lukewarm water on your hair—if you’re brave, try washing with cold water and see the difference it can make!
Restrict the amount of heat applied via blow-dryers and other tools. Heat application can damage and even burn your hair—use sparingly with a protectant and with caution.
Be Sure to Eliminate Excess Product
Before you exit the shower, make sure you have gotten all excess product off your scalp, or build up can occur. Buildup can clog follicles and pores, which could cause slight hair loss.
Regularly take a brush through your hair and your scalp to energize it and remove product buildup. Consider using the Keranique Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask to help rejuvenate your scalp.
