I’m a summer junkie, but it seems like everyone I know prefers the fall. Turns out people actually like cooler temps and binding clothing. Not me! But I do love the new hairstyles that come every year when the leaves start changing.

A new take on the messy bun

Messy buns are so, well, MESSY! Stylists for Michael Kors took care of this predicament for fall fashion by creating a low knot with just enough of an “undone” feel. To do this, dry your hair and then tease from the ends up for just enough texture. After creating a side part, pull your hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic. Wrap your hair around itself and pull it through so it forms a knot, then secure into place with bobby pins, leaving the tail. Voila! Simply messy-chic!

Sleek and chic

For busy fall days when you just don’t have time to fuss around, look to hairstyles from Chanel, Dior and Jason Wu. These slicked back, stick-straight ponytails will keep your hair off your face, whether you’re heading to the office or out on errands. To get this look, start with straight, dry hair and pull it into a ponytail directly behind your ears. Spritz your head with shine-enhancing hair spray and use a boar bristle brush to get a really smooth finish. Secure tightly with a hair elastic, then wrap a strand of hair around it to cover up the hair tie.

Bohemian braids

Leave it to Rachel Zoe to create a totally wearable boho look that works for locks short and long. You can achieve Zoe’s bohemian braided styles by starting with dry, semi-straight hair and simply braiding one 1-inch section of hair right down the side. Loosen the braid a bit before securing with a small clear elastic, and watch as your look is transformed into hippie-chic.

Half-up heaven

Want to wear your hair down, but hate when it’s in your face? Gucci’s half-up hairdo is as practical as it is romantic, and super-easy to pull off. Whether your hair is straight, wavy or curly, you just need to part your hair in the middle, then take two-inch sections from either side, twist them away from the face and secure them in the back with bobby pins or a clip (sparkly hair accessories are also in, I might add!)
