One of the most common experiences among hair in women is the dreaded split ends. When your hair appears dead and frayed at the end, it can become a hassle and increasingly harder to maintain. Luckily, there are a few different ways you can approach your split ends so you can go back to loving your locks.

Hydration

If you examine your split ends closely, you will notice that the hair overall looks dry. You can also see that there are different types of split ends and that some hair strands will have more splits than others. One thing that you can do to help with repairing split ends is to hydrate your hair. Using a hair mask helps give your strands the hydration that they have been lacking, which will help your hair from appearing to have dry, split ends. It can even be more beneficial to use a hair mask once a week to help prevent future split ends from forming.

Towel Dry

The decision to blow dry your hair is often based on convenience rather than prioritizing your hair’s health. The way you dry your hair after you wash can be a contributing factor to your split ends. In order to prevent further breakage to your hair, and keep the damage from moving towards the roots, be gentle. Rubbing your hair with a towel is not the best practice to use to soak up excess water. Instead, try wrapping the towel around your hair and gently squeezing the water out. Make sure you are using a soft fabric, without it, frizz can form which is just as annoying as the split ends themselves.

Wide Tooth Comb

A great practice you can try is using a comb in the shower. When your hair is wet, it is the most prone to breakage and a comb is softer in the hair than a brush. Moisture and hydration is important to hair health, so if you are using products that promote deep hair hydration, brushing your hair with a comb in the shower with conditioner helps greatly. This is because it distributes the product across the hair which can help treat the split ends which you may have missed in initially applying.

Professional Help

The best thing you can do for split ends is to just bite the bullet and get a trim. Stylists have many different ways that they can cut split ends off without making a drastic change to your hair length or style if you want to keep your hair long. For example, a new way is called ‘candle burning’. This technique is not for everyone and needs to be professionally done, but it does only affect the split end. Another technique worth researching is ‘Hair Dusting” which also only focuses on the split ends themselves and works well for flyaways.

Overall, there is no way to fully reverse split ends, but they can be avoided. The most important thing is to make sure that hair is hydrated and be sure to implement healthy hair practices in your hair care routine. The best thing to do is to take precautionary actions before the split ends form, or when they get too out of hand, don’t hesitate to get a haircut instead of just a trim. Split ends are normal and common, and they can also be prevented and treated with some simple at home steps.
