A healthy scalp sets the tone for the rest of your hair. Dandruff, scalp oils, dirt and product residue can cause build up on the scalp. There are other scalp problems that derive from the buildup of residue on your scalp, so it’s important to treat your scalp right. Here are some tips on how you can care for your scalp.

Brush your hair

By gently brushing your hair daily, it allows for the dead hair to be taken out easily. It also removes dead skin cells that clog hair follicles. Do this before a shower for best results. Be sure to replace your brush once every 6 months!

Wash your hair at least 3 times a week

Washing too often may cause for dryness and damage by stripping your hair of its natural oils. Washing your hair 2-3 times a week preserves the natural oils in your hair. If your hair is prone to naturally greasy roots, then a daily wash is acceptable. Just be sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo.

Exfoliate

Be sure to exfoliate your hair at least once a month. Your scalp will benefit from doing so, especially if you don’t wash your hair daily. You can do this by using exfoliating hair masks.

Massage your scalp for circulation

Massaging your scalp with natural oils or an oil-based serum can improve the blood circulation throughout your scalp. It’s important to have a healthy blood flow so that the cells in your scalp can improve the follicles, thus creating stronger hair.

A healthy scalp can help keep hair from falling out, however, if you want to treat hair loss, there is only one FDA approved ingredient to reverse hair loss in women, which is minoxidil.
