It is a fact; winter weather can wreak havoc on your hair. Colder temperatures and low humidity can lead to dry, damaged hair with split ends that can start to remind you of straw. That is not a look that many people desire. Thankfully, if this happens to you there are definitely many things you can do to treat winter hair!

To fix dry, damaged and brittle hair there are a few things you can do. First, ditch the hair straightener, curling iron and blow dryer. The less heat you apply to your hair in these months, the better it will look.1 Embrace your natural texture and air dry your hair as much as possible! You can also consider buying a silk or satin pillowcase. This can help keep your hair looking soft.1

Finally, moisturize your hair as much as possible. Opt for a restorative mask! Invest in a good-quality hydrating shampoo and conditioner.1 For extra moisture try a restorative hair mask. You can make your own using ingredients found in your kitchen, or try our Keranique® Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask. This pre-shampoo treatment will help restore vitality to dry or damaged hair.

To treat those split ends that come with the winter months, the most effective solution is to get a haircut. Your hair stylist will be able to snip those ends right off, leaving your hair looking healthy and vibrant.1 In between cuts you can try a binding cream that can give the illusion of ends that are not split.1

Another hair problem that can pop-up during the winter months is static. Low humidity causes your hair to pick up an electrical charge, which leaves your strands standing on end.1 So, how do you fix this? Again, keep your hair as moisturized as possible. Throw some dryer sheets in your purse for when your hair decides to act up on the go. Rubbing it on your head may take care of the static-y strands.1

One very important thing to take extra care of during the winter is your scalp. Your scalp will get very dry during the winter and it is important to keep it in tip-top shape in order to avoid itching and flaking.1 One very easy way to do this is to opt for a super hydrating shampoo that is designed to hydrate your scalp, like our NEW Deep Hydration Scalp Stimulating Shampoo.
